Lakaynan (la-KAY-nah), meaning ‘the home’ in Haitian Creole, is an interior design studio based in Los Angeles, CA. Our team embodies the spirit of imagination and commitment to realizing a better world, translating this ethos into attentively crafted spaces tailored to our clients' needs. Whether it's a residence or a cherished retreat, our collaborative approach with clients and artisans results in interiors that enhance functionality and uplift the spirit.

We rely on experience and integrity to complete projects on time, within budget, and with consistently pleasing results. ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Inspired by the cultural significance of her upbringing and how it impacted her style of living, Michelle M. Burney created the initial concept of Lakaynan in 2013. At the time, it was a visual approach to personal branding showcasing her interests through lifestyle photography and design inspiration.
Prior to establishing Lakaynan LLC as a design studio in 2023, Michelle earned her Associate of Arts degree in Interior Design from The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, and a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business from San Francisco State University. With a successful career spanning design and advertising industries, Michelle’s diverse experience gifted her many talents and transferable skills that support her design work today.
With her calm communication style, magnetic energy, and love of design she provides the perfect combination of creativity, organization, and unparalleled service to her clients.
Her signature style fuses the fluid forms of nature with modern clean lines through the use of architectural detailing and eclectic furniture. When she isn’t designing, you can find Michelle at either her local lagree studio, antique market, or traveling far and wide.
